Bio

Alan is currently responsible for leading and coordinating BlackBerry's strategic relations with law enforcement, intelligence, and security agencies around the world on issues related to national security, criminal investigations, cyber crime, and other regulatory concerns. Alan joined BlackBerry after 32 years of service with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). In addition to leading counterterrorism field operations across Canada, Alan has experience in a number of foreign countries within the Middle East, South Asia, and East Africa. Prior to retirement from CSIS, Alan was posted to the Canadian Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for over four years where he was responsible for regional and counter terrorism issues and operations in both Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Alan is a graduate of Queen's University and the Canadian Police College. During his government service, he had provided training at CSIS HQ on Counter Terrorism HUMINT operations and has been a lecturer on domestic and international terrorism topics at various law enforcement training programs. Alan currently is a Board member at CENTRIC, which is a multidisciplinary and end-user focused research body located within the Cultural, Communication, and Computing Research Institute at Sheffield Hallam University in the UK. The strategic aim of CENTRIC is to facilitate the triangulation between the key stakeholders in the public security domain including the public, law enforcement, industry, and academia.
